1.) Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years.

2.) Fossil fuels are remains of old plants and other organisms that formed over millions of years. When they are dug out and burned or used to generate electricity, they are no longer available for use. That is why fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources.

3.) Nuclear energy uses uranium -235 as fuel, but uranium-235 is limited. So after a while, they will run out of uranium-235, and they will not be able to produce nuclear energy as effectively. Another problem is the waste material that nuclear energy produces. The waste consists of highly radioactive elements that are harmful to the body. Some of these wastes will remain radioactive for thousands of years.

4.) Because natural gas and oil forms in the same sediment or places, and since they are less dense than rock, they are forced upwards, together. (Unless they get stuck at layers of shale or slate) However, petroleum and coal are not forced upwards and they need to drill into the ground to find them, and since they cannot rise upwards, they are located in different sediments rather than in the same location.

1. Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because it forms from the remaining of plants and other organisms that were buried on the ground and altered over millions of years. Coal generates electricity. Oil make plastic, home shingles, etc, produce gasoline. Lastly, natural gas heat buildings and it's a source of sulfur.
2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because most of the energy resources used to generate electricity. The energy resources are used faster than natural Earth processes. Fossil fuels are used as the same as non-renewable energy resource.
3. The two disadvantages of nuclear energy are safety issues for the bomb not to explode, and people don't know what to do with the waste materials produced by the nuclear energy. Also, environmental problems are related to nuclear power.
4. Natural gas and oil deposits in the same location because oil is formed from the buried remains of microscopic marine organisms and natural gas forms under similar conditions of oil. Coal is different because coal isn't the only fossil fuel used to obtain energy. On the other hand, coal forms when plants die in a swampy area. Petroleum, is in the same location when depositing.

1) Coal, oil and natural gas are considered fosil fuels because they form from the remains of plants and other orginisims that die.
2)They are considered to be nonrenewable energy resorces because we use them faster then they can be created.
3) The left over wastes and enviormental problems. We cant do anything with the left over waste, thats why we should convert to fusion. The end product is also radioactive. The secound problem is enviormental damage. The fossil fuels are causing ozone layer to melt.
4) Gas and oil are under the ground. Coal and petroleum are made from plant and animals that die. Jonathon L

A Period

1. Coal, Oil, and Natural gases are fossil fuels, because they are all made of dead plants and organisms that have been buried and altered over a million years.

2. fossil Fuels are considered to be nonrenewable energy resources, because once all the dead, broken down resources are gone, we will no longer have coal. Also, if people keep digging them up, we will eventually have no more.

3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are
1. The nuclear waste from the power plants is consists of highly radioactive elements formed by the fusion process.
2. Nuclear energy uses up the uranium-235 atoms. There for in the future, there may not be any more Uranium 235 atoms.

4. You are most likely to find natural gases and oil deposits in the same place, but less likely to find coal and petroleum in the same place because natural gases and oil deposits are drilled for and coal is mined for, but petroleum (oil) is drilled for not mined.

1.The definition of fossil fuels are that fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas that form from the remains of organisms that were buried. Since the coal formed when plants die in a swampy area it is fossil fuel. Also oil and natural gas formed from the buried remains of microscopic marine organisms, they are also fossil fuels.

2.Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because it takes millions of years to form those fossil fuels with dead organisms in nature.

3.Nuclear energy from fission is considered to be a nonrenewable energy resource because it uses uranium-235 as fuel which has only limited amount. Also nuclear waste from power plants consists of highly radioactive elements formed by the fission process. This waste will remain radioactive for many many years.

4.We can find natural gas and oil deposits in same location because when tiny marine organisms in ocean sediments, they form both natural gas with oil. However, you less likely to find coal and petroleum at same location because you have to extract petroleum from coal.

2. They are considered non-renewable because we use them much faster then the Earth can replenish them.
3. Nuclear energy produces a radioactive product that cannot be released into the atmosphere for thousands of years. Also nuclear energy used uranium-235 as fuel. There is a limited amount of uranium- 235 to use.
4. Oil and natural gas will more likely to be found together because oil is made the remains of marine organisms. Natural gas is formed pretty much the same way, and often with oil, but in a gaseous state. Coal and petroleum are mostly made from the remains of plants.

1. Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they are formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that we buried millions of years ago.
2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy sources because most of the energy used for electricity can't be renewed and fossil fuels are an energy source. Once they are used for generating electricity or something else, they are gone.
3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are the waste material it produces, and it makes its waste highly radioactive. The waste may even stay radioactive for thousands of years after the nuclear energy is made and used.
4. You are likely to find natural gas and oil deposits deposits at the same location because once plankton die then after a while, once they fall, they are buried under the sea floor. Then over time they change into oil and gas. Gas and oil are then trapped together under the ocean floor. You are unlikely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location because petroleum forms after millions of years once it is buried under the ocean floor. Whereas coal is found in underground mines, and it has to be dug our by miners.

1. The reason why coal, oil, and natural gases are considered fossil fuels is because they come from the remains of dead plants and organisms that grew buried and altered over millenniums.

2. The reason why fossil fuels aren't considered to be renewable resources is because fossil fuels can't be used as energy after it has been used already.

3. One disadvantage of using nuclear energy is that using nuclear energy produces massive amounts of nuclear waste. Also, we do not have the technology to make nuclear energy renewable, and seeing there is a limited amount of uranium-235 available, it isn't worth using nuclear energy.

4. Since natural gas is found in the space between the oil and the shifted rock, it is very likely that they are found in the same places. However, petrol is the same as oil, and coal will most likely be found in a swampy place where there are many layers of land below it.

Questions:
1. Explain why coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels.
2. Explain why fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources.
3. Describe two disadvantages of nuclear energy
4. Why are you likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location.

Answer

1. The reason that coal, oil and natural gas are fossil fuels because they are all formed from dead plants that were buried away millions of years ago. They are also all made from a natural process.
2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because when used the fossil fuels are burned. This causes the fossil fuel to evaporate. Fossil fuels cannot be recycled. They also take millions of years to form again.
3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are that it causes environmental issues and problems, and it is considered to be a nonrenewable source. The radioactive elements formed by fission can be harmful the environment. The fuel used for Nuclear energy is uranium 235. There is only a limited amount of uranium 235 left.
4. It is likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum in the same location because there are a lot of natural gas and oil deposits left unlike the coals and petroleum. Coal and petroleum are fossil fuels that many people had wasted, so there are not a lot of it left.

Oil, coal, and natural gases are fossil fuels because..
-Coal is a sedimentary rock formed from the compacted and transformed remains of ancient plant matter.
-Oil is a hydrocarbon that often is reffered to as petroleum.
-And other natural occuring hydrocarbons are in gas or semi solid states.

This shows that all of these are all remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years.

2. Fossil fuels are renewable energy resources because you cant use the resource again for example you cannot use oil to produce gasoline and get the oil back, because it will be emitted into the enviroment after being used.

3. A disadvantage is that when nuclear energy is used it creates waste which are highly radio active. Another disadvantage is that there is a limmited amount of uranium-235.

4. They are likely to be in the same place because they are formed similarly. Although natural gas is in its gas state and is it composed of hydrocarbon molecules that are lighter than those in oil.

1.Coal, oil, and natural gases are fossil fuels because they are nonrenewable. They are the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years. It is impossible for a process that takes millions of years to be renewed in a manner of a few years.
2.Fossil fuels are a nonrenewable resource because they took millions of years to form. It is impossible to make this process in just a few weeks or even years if it took millions of years to form.
3.Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are that a limited amount of uranium-235 is available for use and the nuclear waste from power plants consists of highly radioactive elements that are formed by the fission process. Some of this waste material may be harmful for thousands of years.
4.It is more likely that you will find oil and natural gases in the same location than finding coal and petroleum in the same location because natural gases and oils form they are found in rocks that are folded or tilted. They need this reservoir rock is the only thing that can keep these gases and oil stored. Coal and petroleum, however, are simply formed from pressure being asserted on animals. They do not need a reservoir.

1.)Coal, oil, and natural gas are considered fossil fuels because they are energy rescources that are created from what is left over of organisms that were buried milions of years ago.
2.) Fossil fuels are considered to be nonrenewable because they form over millions of years and the things they are used for (ex: lightbulbs) waste energy more quickly than we get the fossil fuels.
3.) Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are that it releases harmful radioactive waste that must be contained for 10,000 years before reentering the environment and that there is a limited amount of uranium-235 available for use.
4.) I think you are likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location because gas and oil form in very similar ways, wereas petroleum forms from dead plankton and coal forms from dead plants.

1. Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years. Coal, oil and natural gas are fossil fuels because they meet those criteria.
2. The definition of nonrenewable energy resources is that the resources cannot be produced, regenerated, or reused. Because there is limited amount of these resources, they are called nonrenewable resources.
3. Two disadventages of nuclear energy are that nuclear waste from power plants consists of highly radioactive elements formed by the fission process, and that those waste reamin radioactive for thousands of years.
4. Oil and gas are surrounded by fractured rocks which allows oil and gas to flow. Because of the reason, they are likely to be located together. Petroleum forms when marine organism die and fall to the seafloor but coal is formed in the result of the formation of peat. So it is less likely that they will be buried together.

1. Coal, natural gas and oil are fossil fuels because fossil fuels are things that are nonrenewable resources that are remains of plants and animals from a long time ago. Coal is made of dead plants and oil is made from microscopic marine things. Natual gas is made from the same thigns oil is made from but in a gas state.

2. Fossil fuels are considered to be nonrenewable energy resources because they take millions of years to become a fossil fuel, and they are being used faster than they can be renewed.

3. Two bad things about nuclear energy is that nuclear energy needs uranium -235 to be used, and uranium-235 is a nonrenewable resource.

4. Why are you likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location. You are likely to find natural gas and oil in the same location because they are formed from the same organisms, but in different states. You can't find coal or petroleum in the same location because they are made of things that natural gas and oil arn't made out of.

1. Explain why coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels.

Coal, Oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because thy are formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that have been buried underground for many years. Those three are all used to support energy nad other uses.

2. Explain why fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources.

Fossil fuels are considered to be a non-renewable energy resource because a lot of the energy resources that are used are to maker electricity. The fuels are already being used once and it cannot renew it, however it can be replaced.

3. Describe two disadvantages of nuclear energy

Two disadvantages of nuclear energy is during the fission proccess many radioactive elements get formed. The second disadvantage is that there are wastes that gets produced.

4. Why are you likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location.

You are most likely to find natural hgs and oil that deposit in the same location because they are both unerground. They are found in layers of rocks that have been sedimented. Howeber its less likely to find coal and petroleum deposists at the same location because the proccess the coal goes through has many steps. Also the proccess of the two that eventually produces them are different.

1.Coal, oil, and natural gases are fossil fuels because they are all “remains from plants or animals that were buried and altered over millions of years.”
Coal-contains 50% plant remains and takes millions of years for all the materials to become coal.
Oil- formed from buried miniature marine life and takes millions of years to form
Natural Gases- forms similar to oil
2.Fossil fuels are considered nonrenewable energy because people are using them faster than the earth can reproduce them, therefore, soon we will run out.
3.Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are, that it uses uranium-235 as fuel and uranium-235 is a limited resource, and that it gives off lots of radioactive waste which must be held for at least 10,000 years before it can be reintroduced into the environment.
4.Natural gases and oil are likely to be found in the same location because they for from similar materials, however, petroleum and coal would not be found together because they from different materials. Petroleum forms from marine life remains and ocean sediment and oil forms from plant remains and usually in swamps, therefore, they would not most likely be found in the same place.

Q1 Because they form from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years.

Q2 Because these resources are being used faster than natural Earth processes can replace them.

Q3 First nuclear energy from fission is considered to be a nonrenewable energy resource because it uses uranium-235 as fuel. Second the waste material that it produces consists high radioactive elements formed by the fission process.

Q4 Because when a coal forms sediments keep getting stacked up on each other so eventually when too much sediments are layered the water supply will stop and they will be no more marine organisms in that area.

Chapter 3 Section 1 Review
1. Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas are classified as fossil fuels. This is because that coal, oil, and natural gases are all sources of energy that are used faster than Earth processes can replace them. This makes then non-renewable energy sources and non-renewable energy sources contain fossil fuels.
2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable. This is because fossil fuels are formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and changed over millions of years ago. These dead organisms are non-renewable; therefore the fossil fuels are non-renewable as well.
3. Nuclear energy is very useful; however, it has its disadvantages. For example, nuclear energy uses uranium-235 as fuel, and uranium-235 is a limited resource. Another problem with this is that the waste material that it produces is harmful to earth because it’s radioactive.
4. You will be most likely to find natural gases and oil in the same location because the both form by the same processes. They both form when fossil fuels are formed by the burial of marine organisms. These remains then accumulate beneath earth’s surface. Likewise, petroleum forms the same way. However, coal forms differently and at a different location. Coal forms near swamps. This is because dead plant materials build up in swamps; which eventually creates a layer of peat. The layer of peat is heated and compressed and it eventually produces lignite coal. If it’s compressed and heated more, it produces bituminous coal, and if it’s heated and pressured even more, it forms anthracite coal. Since these fossil fuels form by different processes, they form in different locations.

2. Nuclear energy is considered to be nonrenewable because it uses uranium-235 as a feul. The amount of uranium-235 is limited and not alot is available to use.
3. One disadvantage of nuclear energy is that it produces radioactive elements and it stays radioactive for thousands of years (harmful). Another disadvantage of nuclear energy is that they are using up all the Uranium-235 slowly and also its nonrenewable.
4. You are more likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location than finding coal and petroleum deposits in the same location. 1. Because they are all formed from the remains of lants and other organisms that were altered and buried over millions of years.

2. These resources help to heat our homes, run our cars, and maintain machinery in our major industries. So these resources are limited and nonrenewable.

3.One of the disadvantages is it is nonrenewable energy resource because it uses uranium-235, also necluear energy is the wate material that it produces.

4.Because the natrual gas and oil is less dense than water under ground, so they would be able to stay above the pore water together.

2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because the processes to make them take millions of years.
3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are that it uses a nonrenewable energy resource. It is uranium-235. There is also the problem of nuclear waste. Some of the waste will remain radioactive for thousands of years, so the Environmental Protection Agency determined that nuclear waste must be stored safely and contained for at least 10,000 years before reentering the environment.

Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they form from plant burials or other organic remains that originated from over millions of years ago.

Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy sources because they cannot be retrieved or restored within a short or reasonable period of time.

Nuclear energy is the primary source of electricity and generates from a nuclear reactor. However, the process of producing electricity (the nuclear energy) includes two significant disadvantages. Nuclear energy uses uranium-235 as fuel, but there is only a limited amount of it that is available for use. Not only is there a limitation of fuel usage with nuclear energy, but the waste material that it produces consists of highly radioactive elements that are formed by the fission process.

Natural gas and oil deposits are likely to be found in the same location because overall, they naturally undergo similar processes. They are both hydrocarbons, and they both form from the buried remains of [microscopic] marine organisms. Coal and petroleum deposits are less likely to be found at the same location because they result in a formation of two different processes. Coal is formed with the layer of organic sediment, peat and is formed in sedimentary basins. However, petroleum is considered to be in the same grouping as natural gas and oil in terms of processes and formation. As a result, due to the differences in the derivations of coal and petroleum (and their different processing formations), they are less likely to be found in the same location.

2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because they are being used faster than natural Earth processes can replace them.

3. One disadvantage of nuclear energy is that it is considered to be a nonrenewable energy resource. Another disadvantage is that with nuclear energy, waste materials are produced.

4. It is likely that you would find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits in the same location because oil and natural gas are formed by the same process. Coal and petroleum are formed differently and at a different location.

1) Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels beuca they form from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and alrered over millions of years.

2)Non-renewable energy resources are considered fossil fuels because they can not be made again in a short period of time.

3)Two disadvantages of nuclear energy:
1. It wastes the meaterial that it produces. Nuclear waste from power plants consists of highly radioactive elements formed by the fission process.
2. Nuclear energy from fission is considered to be a nonrenewable energy resource because its uses of uranium-235 as fuel. A limited amount of uranium-235 is available for use.

4)Oil and Natural gas is the result of microscopic marine organisms dieing in an environment with no air, and breaking down.
Petroleum forms over millions of year from the remains of tiny marine organisms in ocean sediment. The process begins when marine organisms called plankton die and fall to the seafloor. Similar to the way coal is buried, sediment is deposited over them. The temperature rises with depth in Earth, and increased heat eventually causes the dead plankton to change to oil and gal after they have been buried deeply by sediment.

2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources because fossil fuels are being used faster than natural Earth processes can replace them.

3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy is that:
A)Nuclear waste from powerplants consists of highly radioactive elements formed by the fission process. This nuclear waste can be very harmful to health and environment.
B) Most nuclear energy is formed through fission which uses Uranium 235. This uranium is not an unlimited resource and is considered nonrenewable.

4. I am likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location because natural gas is oftenly formed under the same conditions as oil. Both are composed of hydrocarbon molecules but natural gass has lighter molecules. Coal and petroleum deposits are not likely to be found in the same location because

2. Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy sources because the enerygy sources are used up faster than the natural Earth processes can replace them. When we use these energy sources once we use them they're gone. Never come back.

3. A disadvntage of nuclear energy is that it produces waste material, which are normally highly radioactive elements. Another disadvantage is that the energy is a nonrenewable energy source. This is because people use uraniam as their fuel, which is available in limited amounts.

4.You are less likely to find Coal and petroleum deposits where gas and oil deposits are found because coal and petroleum are normally made from plants which are found on land. And gas and oil is made from marine oraganisms which are found near water. So you wouldn't find coal and petroleum deposits near gas and oil deposits because they are found near different things.

Questions:

Answers:
1.Fossil fuels are things that form from the remains of plants and organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years. Coal contains at least 50% plant remain andoil and natural gas is formed from buried remains of microscopic marine organisms. Therefore, they are all fossil fuels.
2. This is because most energy resources used to generate electricity are nonrenewable.
3. One disadvantage is that nuclear waste is radioactive and can harm living organisms. The second disadvantage is that it uses uranium-235 as fuel but only a limited amount of uranium-235 is available for use.
4. This is because oil or natural gas would be found near water and coal would be found towards land.

1. Oil, coil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they are the reamains of begetation, fossils, and plants. The carbon of the orignal organisms are in the fossil fuels, but after they are burnt the carbon disappears.

2. Fossil fuels are supposed to be nonrenewable energy sourcesz because after the carbon is released nothing is able to be used anymore.

3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are, it wastes too much from power plants which cinsists of radioactive elements formed by the fission proccess and there is not too much uranium 235 to use.

4. It is most likely to find naturral gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location because oil and natural gases are near each other, under the earth's surface. 1) Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they are energy fuels that form from the remains of organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years.

2) Fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources since there is a limited set amount of them and cannot be used again and again. Also, these non-renewable energy resources are being used up faster than the Earth processes can create and replace them.

3) Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are:
i. It is non-renewable as it uses uranium-235 as fuel.
ii. Nuclear waste from power plants contain highly dangerous radioactive elements, which will remain so for thousands of years.

4) Natural gas and oil form under similar conditions of being produced by the buried remains of microscopic marine organisms, and both are formed in an anaerobic environment buried by sediments. Basically, the natural gas is similar to oil, only that it is in a gaseous state while oil is in liquid state.
Coal and petroleum, on the other hand, are two unlikely resources to be found in the same location because they are the result of two totally different processes. Coal is formed from having dead plant material in an anaerobic environment of swamp with bacterial growth whereas petroleum is formed from the remains of plankton in an anaerobic environment under sediment.

1.Coal, oil, and natural gases are fossil fuels because they are examples of non-renewable energy sources. Gossil Fuels are formed from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years.

2.Fossil Fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy sources because fossil fuels are used to produce gasoline for cars, heat for houses, and other uses. And you can not re-use heat or gases because you can not save it. Therefore it is non-renewable.

3. Two disadvantages of nuclear energy is that nuclear energy from fission is considered a non-renewable energy source because it contains uranium-235. There is only a limited amount of uranium-235 available,so there are not many able to use.
Another disadvantage is that the Nuclear waste consists of highly radio-active elements formed from the fission process.

4.Oil and natural gases are more likely to be located in the same area because they have many similarities. For example oil and gas are both hydrocarbons, they are used in everyday life, they are both found in layers of rock, and they are lesss dense than water. Not only are their uses alike but natural gases form under similar conditions and often with oil. But Petroleum and Coal do not share many similarities. Also Petroleum would probably be located closer to gas because gas is refined by petroleum. While coal is just removed from the ground using several methods of excavation.

1. Q: Explain why coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels.
MA: Fossil fuels are fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas that form from the remains of plants and other organisms that were buried and altered over millions of years ago. Coal is a sedimentary rock formed from compacted and transformed remains of ancient plant matter. And people can obtain energy from coals. Coal is a fossil fuel because it was formed from dead plant that was planted millions of years ago. Oil is a thick, black liquid formed from the buried remains of microscopic marine organisms. Also, natural gas is a similar type of oil but it forms in a gaseous state. Both these oil and natural gas are fossil fuels because they provide energy for people to use and are formed from dead organisms millions of years ago.

1. Explain why coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels.

Coal, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels because they are formed from the remains of other animals or plants. For example, coal is formed from ancient plants which have been compacted.

2. Explain why fossil fuels are considered to be non-renewable energy resources.

Fossil fuels are consider to be non-renewable energy resources because they can not be collected again after being used. There isn't a way to recycle fossil fuels. Therefore, fossil fuels have to continuously be dug out.

3. Describe two disadvantages of nuclear energy

Two disadvantages of nuclear energy are that it is nonrenewable energy. In addition, it contains highly waste material. This waste material can be radioactive for over a thousand years.

4. Why are you likely to find natural gas and oil deposits in the same location, but less likely to find coal and petroleum deposits at the same location.

Natural gas and oil deposits are likely to be found in the same location because they are both formed in similar conditions underwater. However, coal will less likely be found in the same location as petroleum because coal is formed from dead plants while petroleum is formed from dead plankton. These two living creatures usually do not grow in similar conditions.
